Wiping the Slate Clean

I’m looking at all of this snow….all of this white and I am taking a deep breath and wiping the slate clean.

It’s been years of begging, tiptoeing, hoping, worrying and I can’t help someone that doesn’t want help. I can love and I’ll love from a distance.

I choose this family. My family. The one I helped form. The family with Ben – who can’t hear me unless I say cookie or lego. The family with Annie – who can not sit still. Ever. I choose Scott who has been working longer than long hours – who never strays from his vision and integrity. A family full of quirks, laughter, independence, wonder, dreams, faults, and love….always love.

Shakily, but sure of what I know to be true, I am wiping the slate clean.

Pare, thank you! You have been the sweetest. thank you.

tanya, it took a thousand shots to get one. Ben, at one point, was pretending that he was blind by closing his eyes for every click of the camera…are you kidding me?!

Sometimes we need a fresh start. To see what’s been holding us back and bringing us down and just break free. It’s a hard one though, but you seem to have reached this decision by listening to your heart instead of acting out of mean spiritedness (if that’s a word). I’m sure you gave it your all before it got to this point.

And that picture is at least 10 kinds of awesome!

  5. Heidi says:

For sure. It was an agonizing decision. I know I’m being sort of vague about the whole thing, but I need to be. I’m not cutting anyone out of my life, just putting some distance between us. Thanks for the encouragement. :)
