My Story

In 1998 I was an active young woman looking forward to all the possibilities life had to offer. That all changed when my car was struck by a reckless driver going more than 100km/hr (60 mph). The car crash resulted in a battle for my life that would involve two weeks in a coma, seven months in the BCPFF Burn and Plastic Surgery Unit at Vancouver General Hospital and an additional five months in rehabilitation.

What should have been the darkest chapter of my life became a bright testament to the strength of the human spirit. I am now a wife, mother, and motivational speaker. The tragedy of the accident has been turned into a life message of hope. I know the power of love and courage, and how to impart it to others. I have had the privilege to speak in front of thousand of individuals to give them fresh hope, and lead them to believe that anything is possible.

You can read the first 3 chapters of my story or watch the short video below.

I am glad you are here today. Seeing that picture of you in the video (with the crutches in the hospital room) made me ponder my repsonse to such a horrific experience. You rock!

I was looking up your agent because a friend of mine is having her book published through Kimberly Cameron, and I am starting to look for an agent for my memoir. I only saw your memoir listed on their site. So I looked it up. I was moved by your video and inspirational story.

    Hi Heidi,
I saw you on Global TV and thought “Oh my gosh, that’s Scott’s wife”. I haven’t seen Scott since he was little.
I am your father-in-law’s (Wayne) aunt . He mentioned he would be taking some of your books to the family
reunion but unfortunatley I won’t be there so was wondering if there was any other way I could get a copy .

Keep up the good work. You are such an inspiration to everyone fortunate enough to hear your story.

    God bless and stay safe.

I remember hearing the sirens drive by the dinner I was at after this happened . Glad you survived and will be reading your book .

Just finished your book. Thank you for sharing such honestly about such a personal road. You have inspired me so much. When I think that something is not going right in my life I know I have to do a reality check and make sure I am thankful for everything I have. It is so easy to get caught up in the negative but after reading your book I want to strive to reach for the positives. I live in Maple Ridge and kept comparing your story and wondering how I would have coped whether it was myself or as a parent or family. Thank you for letting us know that whatever in life comes for us that we can cope and make our lives something that will count. When I was reading your book, I felt like I was right there. Your description had me holding my breath through your pain and grieving along with you. Again, thank you for opening up your life so that we can all live ours better.

It was an honour and pleasure to meet you today when you gave your inspirational talk today at Surrey College.
I’ve already shared the second book I bought with a good friend.
You are such an eloquent writer. I started reading and had trouble putting the book down.
I will buy anything you write!
Thank you for your words “what do you want your story to be”.
We are each the authors of our own life.
    I will never forget that!
    Thank you!
    Much love,

    Dear Heidi,
I can understand your story a little because our grandson was burnt in a car fire when he was three. He lived after a series of miracles and is now working for the K.I.D.S. Foundation in Australia, where burns survivors are helped with camps etc. Like you, he’s also an inspiration. Praise God for lives that count for good. Thankyou for sharing your story.

Your story is so inspirational. I have found that having faith, believing in a higher power, and simply seeing things from another perspective helps with giving you strength. Beautiful story.

I came across you blog and found your story to be inspiring, especially during the holidays where everyone is looking for a little miracle themselves. Looking at things from another perspective is why I really enjoy reading blogs like these. I have found this and other community like Wearable Therapy by Tokii to be place that I can find inspiration to be my best self.

Very well done ininstvgatioe, media never focused on facts but instead attempted to question legality. Unfortunately we are running out of time with November getting closer, Congress will do Nothing, unfortunately.

I find your blog so inspiring. Everything you have been through has made you a stronger and more determined woman, who is an example to us all. Just changing your perspective on things can make for a better situation on the whole. Thank you so much for sharing!
